Peacock Tail Pavilion

Itinerant Wooden Pavilion Competition - Third Place

The construction logic of the vault is based on an interconnected modular system, assembled with traditional Japanese joinery technique.  Each module is linked to the next one via metal pin joints in order to create the desired arc angle and vaulted shape. Moving away from a typical barrel vault with faceted geometry and equal dimension modules, the Peacock’s Tail Pavilion pushes the boundaries through a parametric switch creating a free vault form where each wooden element has its unique dimension. An in-house CNC process is required to build each module and facilitate the vault’s site assembly.
