Iceland Movie Pavilion International Competition

Grjótagjá, Lake Mývatn, Iceland

The planimetric design gives maximum flexibility to the overall space so that the Pavilion can adapt and transform over time. On both the Main North and Secondary South entrance, a lobby is provided to create a filter zone to control temperature and avoiding carrying dirt/snow inside. The main and larger entrance lobby is equipped with a large wardrobe. Two accessible toilets serve the Cinema and the Cafeteria zone.
A gathering space around the Cinema volume is intended as exhibition space or event space related to Cinema activities. The projection room, sunken into the ground, provides fifty comfortable seats and four spaces for disabled at the top. The spacious area in front of the video wall is intended for stand activities like conferences or talks.
The video control room and a small office are detached from the Cinema close to the entrance. The Exhibition space, the Cafeteria with a kitchenette, and the Cinema Hall can work independently giving to the Pavilion high functionality and interchange possibilities creating a highly flexible space.
